About Shattered Twilight

Shattered Twilight is a dark fantasy setting created by James Young. This blog hosts stories and other media set in the world of Shattered Twilight.

The World

The gods are dead; the fragments of their shattered minds, no longer capable of thought or comprehension, react only instinctively - blindly - to the invocations and rituals of their followers.

Darkness spreads over the world. Without the gods of the Silver Crown to hold them in check, nor even their creator to direct their actions, the dark creatures of the Midnight Lady, Ygn, run wild over the world. The servants of Doran, Lord of the Day, work ceaselessly to maintain the day's power to weaken and subdue the darkness, but of his brother Emmenat, benevolent Lord of Night, no trace can be found; his servants scatter and weep at their abandonment, and the night belongs entirely to the spreading evil.

In the realms of Men, chaos reigns; without the guidance of the gods and in a world that is becoming a waking nightmare, kingdoms fall and ancient alliances fall in the dust. After a long age of peace, war is once again a daily reality. Tyrants rise and fall, bandit princes become the true rulers of land held in the name of others, and any semblance of stability is a long forgotten memory.

And at the borders of the lands of Men, the ancient, alien Ylln are growing ever stronger. Their gods, long since bound and stripped of agency to serve the mortals who once served them, are unchanged by the cataclysm, and the Ylln wield their power with growing ferocity, pressing ever further past the borders Men once held with the help of their gods.

Darkness creeps ever further over the shattered world, and hope is a distant memory. There is no salvation for Men, no glory, no light; only the struggle to survive.

The Stories

Currently, there is only one story set in the world of Shattered Twilight.

The Farmer's Wife is a story of shadows and darkness, and of ordinary people trying to survive and fight it. The story is updated daily; once there is enough of it, it will be compiled into a "the story so far" .pdf for those new to the story.
